Quick Overview

This online certification course meets the requirements set forth by the Department of Safety and Health (DOSH), more commonly known as Cal/OSHA, for bloodborne pathogen training in the state of California.

Human blood can contain dangerous and potentially fatal germs called bloodborne pathogens. For example, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and many other pathogens can be transmitted through contact with someone else's blood. In addition, contact with bodily fluid also risks exposure to other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). Safety training can prevent accidental exposure.
Who This Course is For

This course is for:

Bloodborne pathogen training is required for all workers who may be subject to "occupational exposure" to blood or OPIM. Occupational exposure is defined as "reasonably anticipated skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or OPIM that may result from the performance of the employee's duties."

This definition encompasses many professionals who may come into contact with bloodborne pathogens. Workers in the medical field are most at risk of exposure to these pathogens, but workers in other fields such as body art, law enforcement, and hazardous materials processing are also at risk. Employees in the construction industry are specifically exempted from this regulation; however, all employers have a responsibility to protect workers from bloodborne pathogens per California's regulations.
